Chinese New Crop Garlic Update
The new garlic crop in China has started to enter the market. However, due to high moisture levels, dehydration processing has not yet begun. The first batches of properly dried garlic are expected to become available in about two weeks.
This year’s crop shows promising results in both quality and quantity. Early estimates suggest the total output may be up to 20% higher compared to last year. However, official figures are not yet available.
Despite the larger harvest, the overall supply might not increase significantly. Current inventory levels are very low, only about half of what they were at the same time last year.
Additionally, the raw material for dehydration is limited. Typically, smaller and lower-grade garlic is used for this purpose because of its lower cost. This season, such “tiny garlic” is in short supply, forcing processors to use higher-quality garlic, which results in increased costs.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed.
