The main growing areas for African Bird’s Eye Chilies nowadays are Malawi, Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria. Lower prices the last couple of years have resulted in farmers looking for other products.

Less chilies were planted, resulting in a lower crop yield as foreseen. Malawi, Uganda and Kenya basically are sold out of material. In the past we could find alternative produce from Thailand, but this is not an option this season; Thailand hardly produces enough to cater for their domestic consumption. At Van der Does we were able to capture a small volume of African Bird’s Eye Chilies for our regular buyers for shipments between October and December of this year.
